A passport that is valid for at least six months upon departure is required for entry. The national driving license is not a valid border document.


Travelers need a visa, which can be obtained from the Mozambique diplomatic mission. Only if there is no Mozambican diplomatic mission in the applicant's country of residence, a single entry visa for tourist purposes can be applied for at some of the larger border crossings and at Maputo Airport, which is very time-consuming.
Business travelers and representatives of NGOs need an invitation letter. Identification is required, the original of the passport must be carried with you. Re-entry (e.g. after trips to the nearby South African Kruger Park) are only possible if you have received a multiple visa, which is not available at border crossings. A yellow fever vaccination is compulsory for entry from yellow fever areas, even in transit.

A cream colored emergency passport is accepted. Visa issuance is not possible at the border crossings.
