How could I make it to Stanford now?
Good evening,

I am currently in the 11th grade of a vocational high school (Wirtschaftsgymnasium) in which I will hopefully / probably get my general university entrance qualification in 2020 with a result of 1.0. I am definitely a fan of "Think Big" and now my goal is to go to Stanford. I definitely dare to finish my Abitur, SAT and ACT very well ...

My concern is more about the "extracurricular activities". I have never done anything on a voluntary basis before. And I've never been to a club for the long term either. Especially not in an upper position.
I have now registered with an art association and would now like to look out for voluntary work. And then a second after 6-12 months.

Do I still have a chance if I start seriously now? Is Stanford looking for people who have been doing this for many years? And above all: Which extracurricular activities are best or which are the best?

I would be very happy if people would contact me who are studying or have studied in Stanford or an Ivy League university.

Many Thanks!

Best regards
Tobi

As a Western European, it is comparatively easy to get a place. So, if your test results are correct, you should have a realistic chance. Nevertheless, like the Americans, you will have to apply to 5-10 universities in order to realistically be accepted anywhere. As soon as you have your test results, because they will be really important to you, you can decide more.

Many thanks for your response!

I've already looked at the Stanford CDS and there are quite a few "perfect" students there. You are forced to stand out with extracurricular activities.
I saw a position as a group leader at the JRK (Youth Red Cross) in my city. I'll call there tomorrow ...
And I want to register for the art association.

Do you have any chances with something like that? Or is that still far too little?

Tip, Bachelor in Germany and then Master and / or PhD at an American university. Then you can sharpen your profile during your studies, join a foundation, etc.

The US is also more fun from 21

I don't drink alcohol or anything else that could make this age limit attractive ^^.

How about a Bachelor in Canada at a "normal" university and then to Stanford GSB?

Why? In Germany, you can get your bachelor's degree almost free of charge. Going to a normal university abroad is only worthwhile if you really want to stay and work in this country. Instead of a normal university in Canada, I would prefer a top German university.

Otherwise UK. As long as they are still in the EU, you will benefit from favorable study conditions, although it will probably be too late for you.

I have to agree. I would do a Bachelor in DE. But for the master’s degree, I would consider going abroad, if the possibilities exist. But in the end it is your decision.

The master's (1-2 years) is also a lot cheaper than the bachelor's (3-4 years). Calculate about $ 60,000 a year.

There is financial aid for undergraduates.

But you have to get it first.
