How to decouple your Apple Watch from your iPhone

  1. The Apple Watch and iPhone must be close together while you unpair them.
  2. Open the Watch app on the iPhone.
  3. Under My Watch, tap All Apple Watches.
  4. Next to the watch you want to unpair, tap "Info"
  5. Tap Unpair Apple Watch.
  6. For a GPS + Cellular model, choose whether the cellular tariff should remain.
    • If you want to pair your Apple Watch and iPhone again, keep the cellular plan.
    • If you don't want to pair your Apple Watch and iPhone again, you can remove the cellular plan. If you're not going to pair with another Apple Watch or iPhone, you may need to contact your wireless service provider to cancel your wireless service plan.
  7. Tap again to confirm. You may be asked to enter your Apple ID password to unlock. Before all content and settings on your Apple Watch are deleted, the iPhone creates a new backup of your Apple Watch. You can use this backup to restore your Apple Watch to a new Apple Watch. After the Apple Watch is unpaired, the message "Start pairing" is displayed.
  8. Set up your Apple Watch again.

Here's how to erase your Apple Watch if you don't have an iPhone

  1. On Apple Watch, tap Settings> General> Reset> Erase Settings & Contents.
  2. Enter your password when prompted.
  3. For a GPS + Cellular model, choose whether the cellular tariff should remain.
    • If you want to pair your Apple Watch and iPhone again, keep the cellular plan.
    • If you don't want to pair your Apple Watch and iPhone again, you can remove the cellular plan. If you're not going to pair with another Apple Watch or iPhone, you may need to contact your wireless service provider to cancel your wireless service plan.
  4. Tap "Erase All" to confirm. This will reset the Apple Watch to its factory settings.
